In the world of hair care, the active ingredient minoxidil is a household name, especially for those looking for hair loss support. Minoxidil, a drug originally developed to treat high blood pressure, has been shown to help stimulate hair growth in people with hereditary hair loss. But while minoxidil is an ideal option for many, others are looking for more natural alternatives for their hair care routine.
What is minoxidil?
Minoxidil is a topical agent that is widely used to treat hair loss due to its unique properties. Originally introduced in the 1970s as an oral medication to treat high blood pressure, researchers accidentally discovered its ability to promote hair growth. This discovery led to the development of a topical solution as a foam or liquid that is applied directly to the scalp, specifically to combat androgenetic alopecia, also known as hereditary hair loss. Minoxidil works by dilating the blood vessels in the scalp, which can lead to an increase in blood circulation. This increased blood supply to the hair follicles can bring dormant hair back into the growth phase, which can increase hair density and counteract the hair loss process.
The use of Minoxidil for women
The use of minoxidil is relatively simple and does not require prescription medication, making it an attractive option for many people struggling with hair loss. The product is no longer only available to buy in pharmacies, but also in drugstores or online. It is usually applied to the affected areas of the scalp once or twice a day. Results can vary, with some users seeing a change in hair growth after just a few months, while for others it can take longer. It is important to note that minoxidil must be used continuously, whether it is applied as a foam or liquid solution. Once use is discontinued, it is likely that the hair loss previously experienced will resume and therefore new hair growth will no longer be encouraged.
Despite its potential effectiveness, minoxidil is not without potential side effects. These can range from local reactions such as itching and dandruff on the scalp to unwanted hair growth on the face or other parts of the body. In addition, pregnant or breastfeeding women must not use Minoxidil as safety is not guaranteed for these groups. You must read the risks and side effects before use. It is recommended that you consult an appropriate pharmacist or doctor for further information on the leaflet and any questions you may have. Although minoxidil is an option for many people suffering from hair loss, it is important to be aware of the chemical nature of the product. Furthermore, it should be used for life. The potential side effects need to be considered, leading some to look for gentler and more natural alternatives.

Experiences with minoxidil and the transition to natural hair care
"I have suffered from anemia (thalassaemia minor) since birth and still had a beautiful head of hair at the age of 24. Suddenly it started ... I lost the hair at the back of my head. It soon became a real obsession. I was told: "That's the way it is, just accept it, you have a permanent iron deficiency. I didn't accept that.
I tried many things without success until I came across Minoxidil and at my first appointment I was given the weakest Minoxidil solution (I'm not sure if it was 0.5%) and a pack of Pill Food. Over time, however, the result was clearly not satisfactory. So the dose was continuously increased to 5% twice a day (morning/evening). The appointments took place every six months. But the result was there! However, my scalp became increasingly sensitive and I needed mild shampoos. The regrown hair was straw-dry and fine, it looked as if I had two different hair qualities on the top and bottom of my head.
When my scalp could no longer tolerate chemical hair dyes, the only option was henna dyes.
Why should I pay attention to a healthy and balanced diet but smear or care for my hair with chemical products? From then on, I switched to silicone-, paraben-, sulphate- and mineral oil-free products.
My hair growth specialist took my problem to heart, gave me very good tips and tricks and drew my attention to the YELASAI products.
Over time, I also started to think about it: Why shouldn't a natural product have the same effect as minoxidil? Why do I have to use this product for the rest of my life ... which is ultimately a drug? Shouldn't we use as little medication as possible? Am I really doing something good for my body? My motto became: I just want my hair back, and I want it back in a healthy way. I know it's possible!
As a result, after more than five years of using Minoxidil, I decided to switch to YELASAI: But one thing worried me greatly ... all my hair regrown with minoxidil would fall out! So I read through the instructions on the YELASAI website and called Gianni Coria's team, who explained everything very well. Everything was followed word for word and the hair that grew back with Minoxidil stayed on my head!
The quality has improved in the sense that this hair absorbs moisturizing packs better and is no longer so straw-like. My scalp is no longer so sensitive and new hair is constantly growing back, which has more strength and grows completely (up to the length). I now have a real "fuzz" around my head, the hair is there and has strength. They are stronger and fuller, bald patches are gone.
One thing is clear: you need patience ... and you have to brush, brush, brush and treat the scalp with the Ayurveda Hair Acitve Tonic massage in well.
My hair growth specialist has given me great support during this change and all this time, always encouraging me not to give up (even now). She also always shows me the success/the change, which is very important!"
Why choose natural hair care for hair loss?
Switching to natural hair care offers a multitude of benefits beyond gentle scalp and hair care. Pure ingredients found in nature provide a rich source of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are essential for hair health and growth. They work in harmony with the body's natural processes to help strengthen the scalp, which can reduce the risk of irritation and side effects often associated with chemical treatments.
In addition, using products with natural ingredients can promote scalp regeneration in a way that chemical products can rarely achieve in the long term. By supporting scalp health, natural products can help to address the root causes of hair loss rather than just treating the symptoms. This promotes hair growth in the long term and can contribute to an overall improved hair texture even as androgenetic alopecia progresses with use.
Another advantage of using natural hair care products is their contribution to environmental protection. Unlike many chemical products, which can contain harmful substances that pollute both the environment and waterways, natural hair care products are generally biodegradable and free from harsh chemicals. This means that using them is not only good for your hair, but also for the planet.
The philosophy behind natural hair care, especially when treating hair loss in women, also involves a holistic approach. This approach looks at the body as a whole and aims to promote the balance and health of not just the scalp, but the entire body. By supporting the body from the inside out, natural hair care products can promote the journey to vibrant hair.
