The skin's surface is slightly acidic — that is its protective mantle. This is precisely why an alkaline bath works: it raises the pH level for the duration of the application and thereby supports the skin's exchange processes. Afterwards, the skin rebuilds its acid protection on its own.
The largest organ of our body - the skin - is alkaline. As is the amniotic fluid in which we humans grow for nine months. An alkaline environment supports the skin in its normal functions, such as the absorption and excretion of substances. Minerals and rocks as well as the Swiss dolomite powder rich in minerals and the sea salt in the CORIALITH alkaline bath support the exchange processes of the skin.
The high-quality bath additive is suitable for regular use as well as an ideal accompaniment to alkaline cures.
The note about the plastic spoon may sound like a minor detail. It appears here twice nonetheless, because it is the only real application mistake you can make with this product.
No metal spoon
A plastic spoon is included with the jar, and there is a reason for that: alkaline carbonates react with metal. If you use a kitchen spoon, you alter the powder — and later wonder about discolouration on the spoon. Two level tablespoons for a full bath, half a tablespoon for a foot or sitz bath.
Dissolve
Dissolve the alkaline powder in warm water at 37–39 °C. For a full bath use 2 level tbsp, for a foot or sitz bath ½ tbsp.
Use the plastic spoon
Use the enclosed plastic spoon — no metal spoon.
Take your time
Bathing duration 20 to 120 minutes — depending on how much time you can allow yourself.
Eight minerals, no botanicals
This formula is intentionally lean. It consists of alkaline carbonates, Swiss dolomite powder, sea salt and silica — a Basenbad needs nothing more, and anything additional would only dilute the pH level.

Why must I not use a metal spoon?

Because the formula consists of alkaline carbonates, and these react with metal. A plastic spoon is therefore included with the jar. Nothing dramatic happens if you forget once — but the powder stays unchanged for longer if you follow this rule. The same rule applies, incidentally, to our Herbal Masque.
