Scalp analysis and hair analysis — which systems are there?

Scalp analysis: what your scalp is telling you — and how we read it
What looks like «a bit thinner than before» in the mirror has clear signs under magnification: how the hairs emerge from the scalp, how strong they are, whether the follicle openings are clear. Anyone who can read that does not have to guess.
That is exactly where the craft of hair growth specialists lies: they look at your scalp at several magnifications, make sense of what they find there, and derive a care routine that suits you. And they record the journey over months — so that in the end you do not have to guess whether anything has changed.
A scalp analysis is a cosmetic assessment: the scalp is viewed under magnification, assessed in a structured way and made comparable over time. There are three approaches — medical procedures in a practice, laboratory analyses of the hair, and analysis systems in the salon. YELASAI KI VISION belongs to the third group: overview images taken with a phone for the contours, microcamera images for the scalp, UV light for sebum — evaluated with AI support, translated into a personal care plan and followed over months. Applied by trained professionals.
Twelve months, made visible
Two microcamera images from the same region of one scalp. Between them lies a year of regular care at home and support in the salon.

Two perspectives that complement each other
Scalp and hair tell two different stories — and therefore need two different kinds of images. Your specialist works with both.
It shows the contours: hairline, parting, how fullness is spread across the head. This is where hair quality is assessed in the overall picture — what you see in the mirror too, only recorded and comparable. Because it is quick, it is taken regularly and builds a close-knit series over the year.
This is where reading the scalp begins. It shows how the hairs emerge from the scalp, how many come out of one opening, and how they are spread across the region.
The close-up of the single hair and its surroundings: the structure of the shaft, the state of the follicle opening, fine deposits. What shows here often decides which care makes sense.
It reveals sebum and deposits that disappear in normal light. Often the explanation for why good products have not been reaching the place where they are meant to work.
The images are evaluated with AI support — and your specialist goes through the result with you on screen, using your own images. From this comes a care plan for home: which product, when, how often.
How the comparison over months comes about
The images are taken in the same regions of the head — front parting, mid parting, crown and the other defined areas. Hitting exactly the same spot to the millimetre would require a marking on the scalp, and we do not do that: nobody should go home with a mark on their head.
For tracking progress, the region is the right scale. Hair growth does not change individual millimetres, it changes whole areas — and those become comparable when magnification, region and procedure stay the same. That is why the order during the appointment is always the same, and why the app records which image belongs to which region.
The three approaches compared
The terms scalp analysis and hair analysis are often mixed up, but they mean different things. Each of the three approaches has its place:
| Approach | Who carries it out | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
|
Medical procedures e.g. TrichoScan, trichogram, biopsy |
Dermatology practice, clinic | Medical diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the scalp and hair. |
|
Laboratory hair analysis e.g. mineral analysis |
Laboratory, sometimes via practices or by post | Examination of the hair substance for trace elements. |
|
Analysis systems in the salon e.g. YELASAI KI VISION |
Trained professionals in the salon | Cosmetic assessment of scalp and hair, care derived from it, and a visible record over months. |
Many clients combine the two: the medical assessment clarifies the cause, the scalp care accompanies everyday life. The two go well together.
What your specialist has trained for
KI VISION is not sold openly. Anyone working with it has completed a multi-part training: scalp science, analysis, application, consultation. Reading a microcamera image is a craft — you have to know what distinguishes a young hair from an old one, when a follicle opening is clear and when something is lying on it, and which care makes sense in which order.
The AI supports this: it organises the images, records patterns and prepares the assessment. The professional judgement and the conversation with you remain with the specialist — where they belong.
One journey from practice
The client whose images are shown above came with a long history: a hair transplant years earlier, then various preparations that he had to stop for health reasons. What he tried afterwards did not bring what he had hoped for.
Then he began an active scalp care routine with his hair growth specialist. The two images above are twelve months apart.

Frequently asked questions about scalp analysis
What is a scalp analysis?
In a scalp analysis, the scalp is viewed under magnification and assessed in a structured way: the condition of the scalp, how the hair is distributed across the individual regions, flaking, sebum and hair structure. It is a cosmetic assessment that forms the basis for a care recommendation, and it does not replace a medical examination.
Which scalp and hair analysis systems are there?
There are three groups: first, medical diagnostic procedures in practices and clinics, such as TrichoScan or trichogram, carried out by dermatologists; second, laboratory analyses of the hair, for example mineral hair analysis; third, cosmetic analysis systems for the salon, where images are taken with a microcamera and the progress is recorded over time. YELASAI KI VISION belongs to the third group.
What is YELASAI KI VISION?
YELASAI KI VISION is a cosmetic analysis and support system for salons. The phone overview image shows the contours and is used to assess hair quality in the overall picture; the microcamera images at 50× and 200× magnification are used to read the scalp; UV light reveals sebum and deposits. The images are evaluated with AI support, resulting in a structured assessment, a personal care plan and a record of progress over months. It is applied by trained hair growth specialists.
What happens during a scalp analysis appointment?
First a conversation about your history and the care you have used so far. Then the images: an overview photo taken with a phone and several microcamera images in defined regions of the head. The assessment is discussed together on screen. At the end there is a care plan for use at home. An appointment usually takes 45 to 60 minutes.
Are the images taken at exactly the same spot each time?
No — in the same region. Hitting exactly the same spot to the millimetre would require a marking on the scalp, and we do not use one. For tracking progress, the region is the right scale: hair growth does not change individual millimetres, it changes whole areas. What makes the record comparable is that region, magnification and procedure stay the same.
How does a salon analysis differ from a medical examination?
A medical examination serves to diagnose and treat conditions. A cosmetic salon analysis records how scalp and hair look right now and derives a care routine from that. The two complement each other: many clients arrive with a medical history and build their scalp care alongside it. New, acute or unclear skin changes belong in medical hands.
How often is a new look taken?
The phone overview image is taken roughly every two months — it is quick to do and builds a close-knit series over the year. The microcamera images follow roughly every six months. What matters is that they are taken in the same region and under the same conditions.
How quickly does a change become visible?
Hair grows slowly. Realistically it takes three to six months before something shows in the images. That is exactly why everything is recorded from the start — otherwise that time is lost to guesswork.
Does a scalp analysis hurt?
No. The microcamera is placed on the scalp, and that is all that happens. Nothing is removed and nothing is cut.
What does a scalp analysis cost?
Each salon sets its own price, since the analysis is part of the personal consultation on site. Many YELASAI specialists offer the first analysis as part of a consultation appointment. It is best to ask the location near you directly.
Do I have to buy products after the analysis?
No. You receive an assessment and a recommendation. What you do with it is up to you.
Where can I have a scalp analysis with YELASAI KI VISION?
